Shrines, Temples & Museums
Kyoto prefecture has 2,500 beautiful shrines and temples with 1,500 of them being within the greater metropolitan area. About 17 of these are UNESCO world heritage sites. This is not mentioning all the other many tourist sites in and around Kyoto City. There are also a variety of different museums and artisan museums to visit. Many of these places will always be close to where you are staying.
There always seems to be a shrine or temple having a festival of some kind, and it’s a good experience to go and see. There are many stalls that serve interesting foods and snacks such as castella, okanomiyaki, ikayaki, takoyaki, taiyaki, imagawayaki, kara-age, odango and unfortunately, some western junk foods.
