Driving
Driving in Kyoto is a peaceful and orderly experience done anywhere between 30 to 50 kms per hour on public roads, and 70 kms on private highways. Cars are right hand drive and travel on the left side of the road. It is mandatory to take your international driver’s license when operating a motor vehicle, and if you don’t and you are stopped by the police, expect a lengthy wait until you can prove so. If you drive without a license, you won’t be going home anytime soon. With one of the toughest penal corrections systems in the world you don’t want to know what will happen if you cause a drink driving incident of any kind. You won’t be enjoying a comfortable stay for at least a few years.
